Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11be): what it is, how it works and what it does
Wi-Fi 7, designated IEEE 802.11be, is the latest generation of the 802.11 family of standards for wireless local area networks (WLAN), the direct successor to Wi-Fi 6.
Wi-Fi 7, formally designated IEEE 802.11be, is the most recent standard within the 802.11 family that defines wireless local area networks (WLAN). It is the direct successor to Wi-Fi 6 in the evolutionary sequence of the family.
Context within the 802.11 family
The 802.11 standards family comprises, in chronological order, the following generations: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac, Wi-Fi 6, and Wi-Fi 7. Each iteration introduces improvements in capacity, spectral efficiency, and traffic management over its predecessor.
Relationship to other Wi-Fi capabilities
The Wi-Fi ecosystem, to which 802.11be belongs, includes, in addition to the wireless access standard:
